El Guachito

el gauchito.

We knew we were on to something when we got off the subway in Corona, Queens, and the telephone posts were painted blue-white-blue like the Argentinean (and Uruguayan) flag. But we didn’t know how amazing that something was until we walked into El Gauchito and found…alfajores — and not just any alfajores, but our favorite brand, Cachafaz! — and bottles of bitter Terma, and homemade¬†matambre and six types of mate. We found our corner of Argentina in New York and we’ll be honest, we’re freaking out about it. Until you make it out there yourself, read about it over on Serious Eats.
